Bitcoin ETF Inflows Hit $381 Million — Can BTC Finally Break Its August Losing Streak?
Bitcoin is up more than 2% so far in August, a noticeable departure from its usual seasonal pattern. According to CoinGlass, BTC has not closed a positive August since the 2021 cycle. Between 2022 and 2025 the month averaged losses of nearly 10%.
The early strength this year is being supported by a clear return of capital into Bitcoin ETFs and a tentative shift in market dominance.
Capital is rotating back toward Bitcoin
Bitcoin dominance remains below the key 60% level, which means the recent inflows have not yet been fully led by BTC. July actually belonged more to Ethereum — ETH dominance rose 11%, its strongest monthly gain since August 2025.
That momentum has faded quickly in August. Ethereum dominance has already been rejected at the 10.4% resistance, while Bitcoin dominance has started to turn higher. The shift suggests capital is beginning to rotate back into BTC.
ETF flows are the clearest signal
Spot Bitcoin ETFs have recorded more than $381 million in net inflows so far this month — the strongest start to any month since April. Importantly, the products have not posted a single day of outflows yet.
The steady institutional demand stands in contrast to Bitcoin’s historical August weakness. Instead of fading the seasonal pattern, large players appear to be adding exposure.
Macro backdrop is also supportive
Risk appetite has improved after recent comments from President Trump highlighting strong U.S. manufacturing and all-time highs in the stock market. The broader risk-on tone creates a more favorable environment for capital to move back into Bitcoin.
What needs to happen next
For the early August strength to develop into a real break from seasonality, two things matter most:
- Continued positive ETF flows without a sharp reversal into outflows
- A sustained rise in Bitcoin dominance that confirms capital is actually concentrating in BTC rather than rotating elsewhere
Bitcoin has held firmly above $60,000 despite the selling pressure that appeared at the start of Q3. If institutional demand remains consistent and dominance continues to recover, this August could finally deviate from the bearish pattern of the past four years.
The data so far points in that direction — but the month is still young.
