Bitcoin's Cycle Peaks and Angles Theory: A 1-Year Review
Exactly one year ago, on October 02, 2023, we introduced a refined approach to analyzing Bitcoin's historic cycles, leveraging the Angles Theory on the logarithmic growth curve. This approach provided a more accurate roadmap for Bitcoin’s current cycle, projecting both peaks and bottoms using angle measurements derived from past cycles.
At the time of our initial analysis, Bitcoin was trading at around $28,000. Fast forward a few months, and the price surged to nearly $74,000, validating the accuracy of the projections made using the Angles Theory. In this review, we revisit the core aspects of that analysis to assess its relevance to Bitcoin’s current cycle and the path ahead.
Cycle Peaks and Angles
Historically, Bitcoin’s cycle peaks have been notable for their adherence to the logarithmic top growth curve. The following price levels represent the major peaks in Bitcoin's history:
- $32
- $1,250
- $19,800
- $69,800
All of these peaks aligned with the logarithmic top growth curve, a long-standing pattern in Bitcoin's price movements since its inception.
Angle Measurements for Peaks
One striking observation from our analysis is the angle reduction from peak to peak. The decrease in angle suggests a slowing growth rate as the asset matures, but with a consistent mathematical relationship. The angles measured between cycle peaks have been:
- 42° (first peak)
- 22° (second peak)
- 11° (third peak)
Based on this pattern, we predicted the next cycle peak would occur at a 7° angle on the logarithmic growth curve.
Projecting the Next Cycle Peak
Using this angle-based approach, combined with the historic logarithmic growth curve, we projected the next Bitcoin cycle peak to be between $140,000 and $160,000. This projection was slightly revised from last year’s estimate, which placed the peak within the same range, but with an updated understanding of price action.
Cycle Bottoms and Angle Application
Applying the same logic to Bitcoin’s cycle bottoms, we observed that they also follow a similar angle progression, though with slightly more variation. The green dotted lines representing the bottoms correspond to angles that are roughly half of the previous cycle bottom angle.
For the next cycle bottom, we estimate an angle of 8°, which continues to follow the trend of smaller angles over time.
Last Year Compared to Now
Now, one year later, how has this theory fared in practice? The most significant observation is that Bitcoin’s current cycle has been far more aggressive than the previous two cycles (represented by blue and orange fractals in our model). The major catalyst for this deviation was the Bitcoin ETF launch, which injected a substantial amount of institutional capital into the market.
This aggressive cycle has more in common with Bitcoin’s first cycle (represented by the black fractal), which was characterized by rapid growth in a relatively short period. As a result, we anticipate the cycle’s peak will arrive sooner than in previous cycles.
- The logarithmic growth curve analysis suggests a peak by January 2025.
- However, the Sine Waves Tops, which have been historically accurate in identifying Bitcoin's cyclical peaks, project the peak closer to November 2025.
Interestingly, both projections are consistent with the blue and orange fractals used in the initial study, providing additional confidence in the analysis.
Conclusion: Where is Bitcoin Headed?
The Angles Theory on the logarithmic growth curve continues to be a reliable tool for predicting Bitcoin’s price movements. As of now, Bitcoin is on track to reach a cycle peak between $140,000 and $160,000 in the coming 1-2 years. Whether the peak occurs in early 2025 or later in the year, the cyclical nature of Bitcoin suggests that we are heading toward a significant market event.
While the ETF launch and institutional adoption have caused a more aggressive market cycle, historical patterns remain intact, providing a robust framework for future price projections. Traders and investors should keep a close eye on Bitcoin’s price action as it approaches the next major resistance levels and monitor how well it adheres to the projected angles.
